簡單過去式： 過去已完成

The meeting *started* at 9 AM yesterday.

過去進行式： 過去正在發生

I *was reviewing* the document when he called.

過去完成式： 在另一個過去事件之前發生

By the time she arrived, the meeting *had already ended*.
