Pronouns

Subject, object, possessive, and reflexive pronouns — one of the most tested areas in TOEFL.

Subject pronouns come before verbs: *She* manages the team.

Object pronouns come after verbs/prepositions: Give it to *him*.

Possessive adjectives come before nouns: *Their* proposal was accepted.

Reflexive pronouns are used when subject = object: He introduced *himself*.

Examples

Each department should submit its report by Friday. — 각 부서는 금요일까지 보고서를 제출해야 한다.
The manager herself will conduct the interview. — 매니저 본인이 직접 면접을 진행할 것이다.
Those who have completed their training may leave early. — 교육을 완료한 사람들은 일찍 퇴근할 수 있다.

TOEFL Tip:

Watch for "its" vs "it's" and "their" vs "there" vs "they're" — these are common traps.
