名詞節

that節、wh節、whether/if節を主語や目的語として使う名詞節を学びます。

名詞節は名詞の機能を持ち、主語・目的語・補語になります。

That節：

  • *That he resigned* surprised everyone.（彼が辞職したことが皆を驚かせた。）— 主語
  • We believe *that the plan will succeed*.（計画が成功すると信じている。）— 目的語

    • Wh節：

  • *What the manager said* was important.（マネージャーが言ったことは重要だった。）— 主語
  • I don't know *where the meeting is*.（会議がどこか知らない。）— 目的語

    • Whether/If節：

  • *Whether the budget will be approved* is uncertain.（予算が承認されるかは不確かだ。）— 主語
  • Please confirm *whether you will attend*.（出席するかどうかご確認ください。）— 目的語

    • 重要ルール： 名詞節の中では平叙文の語順（S + V）を使います。

  • I wonder *where the office is*. ✓
  • I wonder *where is the office*. ✗

    • Examples

    TOEFL Tip:

    After verbs like "know/believe/confirm", if the blank starts a clause, choose "that/what/whether".
