動名詞と不定詞

-ing形とto + 動詞原形の使い分け — TOEFL Reading必須です。

動名詞（V-ing）： 名詞として使用

  • *Managing* a team requires leadership skills.（チーム管理にはリーダーシップが必要だ。）
  • She enjoys *working* with international clients.（彼女は国際的なクライアントと働くのを楽しんでいる。）

    • 不定詞（to + 動詞原形）：

  • He decided *to accept* the offer.（彼はオファーを受け入れることにした。）
  • The purpose is *to improve* efficiency.（目的は効率を改善することだ。）

    • 動名詞を取る動詞： enjoy, avoid, consider, finish, suggest, mind, deny

    不定詞を取る動詞： decide, plan, hope, agree, refuse, want, expect

    両方可（意味が異なる）： stop, remember, forget, try

    前置詞の後 → 常に動名詞：

  • She is responsible for *managing* the project.（彼女はプロジェクトの管理を担当している。）
  • Thank you for *attending* the meeting.（会議にご出席いただきありがとうございます。）

    • Examples

    TOEFL Tip:

    "look forward to" takes a gerund, not infinitive! (to hearing, NOT to hear)
