定冠詞・不定冠詞・ゼロ冠詞 — 非ネイティブには難しい文法です。

不定冠詞（a/an）： 初出・一般的

  • We need *a* new manager.（特定しない、誰でも）
  • She has *an* MBA from Harvard.（母音の発音の前にan）

    • 定冠詞（the）： 特定・既知・唯一

  • *The* manager who was hired last week started today.（先週雇われたそのマネージャー）
  • *The* sun rises in the east.（唯一のもの）

    • ゼロ冠詞：

  • 不可算・抽象名詞：*Information* is important.（*The* information ✗）
  • 複数の一般名詞：*Employees* should arrive on time.

    • 特殊なケース：

  • 楽器：play *the* piano
  • 最上級：*the* best option
  • 序数：*the* first meeting
