수일치

토플 Reading·6에서 자주 출제되는 수일치 규칙을 마스터합니다.

수일치란 주어의 수(단수/복수)에 따라 동사가 일치해야 한다는 규칙입니다.

단수 주어 → 단수 동사: *The manager approves the budget.*

복수 주어 → 복수 동사: *The managers approve the budget.*

패턴	규칙	예시
주어 + 전치사구 + 동사	전치사 목적어가 아닌 주어에 동사를 일치	The list of items was reviewed.
Each / Every / Either / Neither	항상 단수	Each employee has a badge.
Both / Several / Many / Few	항상 복수	Several applicants were selected.
Either A or B / Neither A nor B	B(가까운 쪽)에 동사 일치	Neither the CEO nor the directors have signed.

동명사/부정사 주어	단수	Managing multiple projects requires experience.

Examples

The results of the survey indicate a high level of satisfaction. — 설문 조사 결과는 높은 수준의 만족도를 나타냅니다.
Each of the participants has received a certificate. — 참가자 각각이 수료증을 받았습니다.
The number of applicants has increased significantly. — 지원자 수가 크게 증가했습니다.
A number of employees are working remotely this week. — 많은 직원들이 이번 주 원격 근무 중입니다.

When you see a blank for a verb in Reading, find the TRUE subject first — ignore prepositional phrases between them.
