도치 구문

부정 부사 뒤, 조건문 등에서의 도치(주어-동사 순서 변경)를 학습합니다.

도치는 주어-동사의 순서를 바꾸는 것입니다. 토플 Reading, 6에서 출제됩니다.

부정 부사 뒤:

  • *Never has* the company faced such a challenge. (회사는 이런 도전을 한 번도 겪은 적이 없다.)
  • *Not only did* she finish the report, but she also presented it. (보고서를 끝냈을 뿐만 아니라 발표도 했다.)
  • *Rarely do* employees work on weekends. (직원들이 주말에 일하는 경우는 거의 없다.)

    • 조건문 도치 ("if" 생략):

  • *Had* I known earlier, I would have applied. (= If I had known / 더 일찍 알았더라면)
  • *Should* you have any questions, please contact us. (= If you should / 질문이 있으시면)
  • *Were* it not for the delay, we would have finished. (= If it were not / 지연이 아니었다면)

    • "Only" 뒤:

  • Only after the meeting *did* we realize the issue. (회의 후에야 문제를 깨달았다.)

    • Examples

    TOEFL Tip:

    After Never/Rarely/Seldom/Not only, expect inverted order (auxiliary + subject).
