Nouns

Countable vs uncountable nouns, plural forms, and noun suffixes frequently tested in TOEFL.

A noun is a word that represents a person, place, thing, or idea.

Countable Nouns can be counted and have plural forms:

  • book → books, child → children, person → people
  • Uncountable Nouns cannot be counted and do not have plural forms:

  • information, advice, equipment, furniture, luggage
  • Common TOEFL Noun Suffixes:

    Key Rule: After articles (a, an, the), possessives (my, his), and adjectives, a NOUN is required.

    TOEFL Tip:

    In Reading, when you see a blank after an adjective or article, the answer is usually a noun. Look for noun suffixes!
